As strange as this may sound, yes that heading is true a Tennessee real estate agent was arrested for poking someone over Face book. Shannon Jackson was arrested and taken into custody by Henderson Police after another woman by the name of Dana Hanna reported being poked over social media site Facebook.com.
Police say that Jackson’s virtual poke could possibly have violated an order of protection issued by a judge last June. The order specifically states that “the respondent is to refrain from telephoning, contacting or communicating with the petitioner”. Jackson is out of jail, but will appear before a judge later this month. She could possibly face up to 11 months in jail since it is considered a class A misdemeanor for violating the order of protection.
However, Jackson’s attorney Lawren Lassiter is planning on proving that the protective order was breached and is trying to determine whether or not the poke came from Jackson’s account or whether it was an impostor hacked into her account. Nonetheless, this case is very interesting because it gives the law a chance to revaluate what they consider to be communication.
With social networking sites and online ambiguity you never really know exactly who is on the other end. But in the case of protection orders, even poking is form of correspondence and possibly communication that is restricted by a protective order. Technology now has completely broadened the spectrum of interacting and after this case the law has to recognize new and different forms of communication. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/AheadoftheCurve/tennessee-woman-arrested-facebook-poke/story?id=8807685&page=1
